Abu Dhabi cool city?

Cool cities are the cities that trying to reduce their CO2 that’s coming from many thing like building and cars by building green buildings and forbidding cars in some places. Now the question is: "is Abu Dhabi a cool city?"

Abu Dhabi is a very development city. it got many high building and it's streets are very crowded. I think Abu Dhabi is not a cool city yet because it has one of the highest rates of CO2 in the world. Although it starting to reduce it's CO2 by building a cool city called Masdar which is zero-carbon and zero-waste city. Abu Dhabi also plaing to build many green buildings soon.

In conclusion, after all the government plans are finish, Abu Dhabi will be one of the coolest city in the world.

Cool Cities (SDJC)

The world is becoming more developed day after day and many serous problems came with it such as global warming, air and noise pollution. Also the increasing of population is making these problems harder to control. To solve these problems, cool cities (SDJC) plan has been set for the gulf.

The logo of the cool city (SDCJ) is "Towards sustainable urban development and Architecture". This project is about building a Network of cool cities that depend on natural power. The city will reduce 60% of its CO2. As known 90% of the CO2 is released from buildings and transport. By building a city with 1 km radius they will solve the transport problem because every thing will be reachable by walking. There are also monorail station, Light rail transit station, water transportation and hybrid car parking areas. All the buildings will be green buildings so the CO2 will be reduce as much as possible.

In conclusion, these cities are one of the solutions that will help solving the global warming. no one built this city because of it's high cost but as you can see building these kind of cities will help solving many problems.

Masdar City

Masdar is a city that will be build in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. It will be the first city in the world with zero-carbon and zero-waste ecology. The city will only relay on renewable energy such as solar energy. It will be build near the international airport of Abu Dhabi. Cars are not allowed in this city. part of the money that will be used in building the city is coming from Kyuto Protocal.

Some people will like to live in Masdar city and the other wont. For me I would love to live there for many reasons. First of all I want to change the place where I live now because it's full of air and noise pollution. I would like to live in environmental place where there air water and food are 100% free from pollution. I also like walking so not using a car is no problem. The final reason is that I want to change my life style so living in Masdar is a good way to start.

In conclusion, there is nothing better than living in a healthy environment. To make the world better place to live we must build more cities like Masdar and that will give the next generation a better life.

One Planet Living

The ten principles of One Planet Living

Zero Carbon: human activity produce lots of harmful gases like CO2 which cause the planet temperature to rise up.

Zero Waste: not recycling the products and packaging is a big waste and how to get ride of it is a big problem.

Sustainable Transport: traveling by car and airplane causes air pollution in the same time the engine sound and horn causes noise pollution.

Local and sustainable materials: depending on non-local materials in the manufacture increase environmental harm and reduce gains to the local economy.

Local and Sustainable Food: importing non-local agriculture product may lead to bad effects and by transporting them it cause air pollution.

Sustainable Water: re-using re-use the wasted water and not overuse the water so every one takes their shear.

Natural habits and wildlife: hunting so many animals for whatever reasons is reducing the natural resources.

Culture and Heritage: because of the development in the nations many Local cultural is being lost.

Equity and fair trade: Many countries around the world suffering from poverty because they don’t have enough food for their people and some in the

Developing world meet what they produce or sell.

Health and happiness: medical care now a days could be found now easily and with less cost or free. Also the people are happier than before because of the Rising of wealth.

USA Cool cities

Many USA of cities realized how dangers the global warming problem is and started to do something to help solving it without waiting for the government to take actions These are examples of some cool cities in the US and what have they done.

In Klamath Falls, Oregon, a geothermal district heating system keeps the sidewalks clear and dry .

Seattle - reduced its own global warming pollution by more than 60 percent by constructing green buildings and operating alternative fuel vehicles.

Washington, D.C - replaced 414 of its polluting diesel buses with cleaner burning, compressed natural gas buses.

Iowa - first municipal utility to install its own wind Turbines.

Salt Lake city, Utah - saves over $32,000 a year on its energy costs as a result of installing 861 light emitting diode (LED) traffic signals.

Houston, Texas – all vehicles will become hybrid by 2010.

Twin falls. Idaho – schools increased their energy efficiency which caused to reduce the cost by $3.5 million.

Columbia. Missouri – working to produce 10% of their electricity with clean energy like wind and solar power by 2015.St

Fort Collins, Colorado – use renewable energy such as wind and solar which is now producing 15% of the city’s electricity

Paul, Minnesota – Warm the buildings using District Energy’s energy-efficient combined heat and power (CHP) system.

Cool Cities Project

In this project I'll talk about many topics and these topics are somehow connected to each other. These are the topics in this project:

1. Critical Thinking

2. Summary of the movie "An Inconvenient Truth" and my opinion about it

3. Carbon Footprint

4. One Planet Living

5. Abu Dhabi Development

6. A Cool City: Masdar

7. Who Should Take Action?

First there is a PowerPoint about critical thinking that illustrates the meaning of critical thinking, some method to think critically and few points about why critical thinking is so important.

Second a summary of "An Inconvenient Truth", I described the movie for some on who haven't seen it after that I write my feeling about the movie.

Third, a problem solution paragraph about Carbon Footprint showing it's definition, problem and solution to reduced it.

Then a discussion about the ten principles of One Planet Living and how can we make use of it in the UAE, a video about global warming created by me and some class mates and ten points of how are some cities saving money, energy or resources.

After that my opinion about the coolest development in Abu Dhabi and some info about two of them.

Follow this is a paragraph about Masdar city showing what the aims og building it.

Finally, my view about what green rules should be passed in Abu Dhabi to make it a cool city and an interview with class mate about it.

My carbon footprint

Have u ever heard about carbon footprint? Carbon footprint is a measure of the impact of your activities that produce greenhouse gases on the planet. The size of your carbon footprint depends on how much do u produce of greenhouse gases. Now I will talk about the problem and solution of the carbon footprint.

The first important problem is that I use the electricity a lot every day, I watch TV, use my laptop, playing video games and many other ways, most of our electricity are generated by burning fuels and that release carbon dioxide which make the earth hotter. The second problem is that my family got 7 cars and also I use my car a lot even if it was a short distance and Cars release large amount of CO2.the final problem is that I smoke a lot. Maybe you think it's a small amount of CO2 but its not.

The first solution is to reduce the amount of electricity every day. I can go the sea with my friend instead of watching TV or playing video games. The second solution is to use one car for the family instead of 7 and when I go out with my friend we can go with one car. The final solution is to reduce my smoking or to quit it because it's bad for health and bordure CO2.

To sum up, don't look at the other carbon footprint and say "oh mine is much smaller then it's ok" and remember the bigger your footprint is the bigger the damage you do the earth.

An Inconvenient Truth

The movie talks about climate changing and shows Al Gore's travels to find proofs for the data he is showing and illustrate some information about his personal history and life.

Former vice president Al Gore tells his opinion about global warming hoping that the people of the earth understand the problem and do some thing before it's too late. what made Al Gore change his way of looking to the world are his sister's death because of lung cancer, and his young son's car accident.

Gore explains the impact of global warming and the most important one is ice melting. If the ice in Greenland or in West Antarctica melted, that will raise world sea levels by about 20 feet, if that happened 100 million of people will be homeless. Another problem is that about 40 % of the world people get their drinking water from rivers that are fed by melt water, after half century these people will have problem because of the increasing of the melting water.

The cause of ice melting is the increase of temperature which is cause because of the increase of the CO2 level. The slideshow shows the annual temperature and CO2 levels for the past 650,000 years, if the co2 level goes up the temperature goes up and the CO2 level now a days is more then average and after 50 year it will be much much more.

In the end Gore asked the people of the world to take actions and work together to solve the problem of global warming and they can in many many ways.

My feelings about "An inconvenient truth"

Before watching the movie my idea about global worming was that the earth is getting hotter and a little ice will met. I said to my self so what, I'm used to the hot weather and the increasing of water won't be so bad. Obviously I was just thinking of myself but after watching "An inconvenient truth" my ideas about global warming have changed completely. I knew how big the problem is and I understood that this is a world issue not small problem that can be solved by bunch of people. This problem need from the world to understand how series it is and I will ask to those who believe that they won't be affected by it to think of their children and grandchildren. I'm sure the many people will change their points of view about global worming after watching the movie just as I did.

I think global worming will no longer exist if the world understood its danger and try start to work together to solve the problem.

Why is it called “An Inconvenient Truth?”

“An Inconvenient Truth” was called by this name because fist of all it's a truth and because many people are uncomfortable with this fact. its seem that most of them want to do what they want without thinking of what will happen in the future.if things continue this way there wont be earth for the next generation to live in.It's inconvenient but it's the truth.

What should be done in Abu Dhabi

There are many ways can be done to make the people aware of global warming problems.
  • Make advertisements on TV, radio and streets about global warming and show its danger.
  • Teach our children in schools about how scary it may get if nobody took actions.
  • Support the products that emit small amounts of carbon and put task on the products with huge one.
  • Put laws that make the factories reduce their CO2.
Write some methods in the newspapers and magazines that people can use to reduce their carbon. After doing these points more people will be aware to this problem and more will start to do something about it.

First I'll tell you general information's about myself. I'm from The United Arab Emirates. I'm student in the ADMC and this is my 2nd year . I was born on the 27th of February 1988. I raised in RAK but, I moved to Abu Dhabi 3 years ago. I have 12 brothers and 11 sisters. Some lives in Abu Dhabi and some in RAK.

I don't really remember my childhood well, or maybe I don't want to remember. I lived in a very bad neighborhood, so I did some bad things when I was child. My friends and I used to steal eggs from our houses and throw them eggs on taxis. One day I remember that we decided to throw eggs on some taxis (as always), but when we did it this time a police car was behind the taxi. We ran as always but this time, the police car was after us. Somehow I managed to flee and hide under my brother's car. I waited there for about 30 min till I was sure that the police are gone. After that night I decided not to throw eggs on anybody. I also remember that school was the most enjoyable place to me. Although I was a bad boy in my neighborhood, but in school I was an angel. My marks were very good, so all my teachers were happy except my English teacher. I can recall that one year I got 100 in Math and 50 in English. All my family were surprised. My father is always positive; he said I'm so proud of you he even gave me money. Unlike my mother, she shouted at me and took the money that dad gave me.O_O

Let me tell you about my self. After I moved to Abu Dhabi 3 years ago, I did start a new life. I'v forget about my old friends and met a new ones (most of my old friends were bad boys anyway). I like playing football, but these days I don't play much because I can't find a good place to play. Even if I did find a place, I don't know many people that I can invite and almost all my friends doesn't like playing football.so I just watch some matches on the TV. In my free time I go to swim in the sea which is near my house or read some books. Well all of them for the same writer "Agatha Christie" and there are detective stories. I always challenge my self to know the real murder before finishing the book. I finished five books and still have six on the waiting list

To me the most interesting time in my life is the time that I spend it with them because every time we meet we do something different. What I like the best is when we go on trip to other emirates. Our last trip was to AlAin. There we went to the desert and setup a fire camp and our tent. We sat around the fire and talked about many thing like cars, games, football and ghost stories. I had a lot of fun on that trip.

I think that every person can be successful but that depend on the person him self. if he want to be or not, if he wrok for it or not. So don't you just set and dream to be successful. I say work hard and live what you used to dream.

Diamonds are very beautiful stones. I have always wondered where diamonds are found and how the trade system works. Now I'm going to tell you the locations of the diamonds mines and how diamonds trades goes.

Diamonds are produced in many countries such as Canada, Angola, Namibia, South Africa and Russia. The number one in diamond-producing is Angola come next Russia and the third place goes to South Africa. Some researches say that Africa is the biggest diamond producing continent.

Finding the diamonds is one thing, but trading them is another thing. De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd, this is the name of the biggest mining company in the world. Most of their diamonds comes from South Africa. The company control about 80% of the world diamonds trades. The diamonds companies sell their diamonds in cities that have reputations in diamonds trades like Antwerp and Dubai.

in conclusion, these were some information about important mines locations and important diamonds company. Diamonds sure look cool, butit will be cooler if you owned them.
